Abstract

The goal of this study was to assess and compare the psychological readiness of Iranian national men's fencing team with the world's elite male fencers. Participants included 58 fencers who participated in the World Championship in Germany in 2017 and all of them selected as statistically sample. This study is descriptive comparision. The Ottawa Skill Assessment Questionnaire was used for collecting data. This data were analyzed using the MANOVA technique at an error level of 0.05. The results showed that there was a meaningful difference between Iranian and non-Iranian fencers in foundation skills, psychosomatic skills and cognitive skills ( P> 0.05 ); In a way that Iranian athletes scored less. The results indicate that Iranian fencers need to emphasize more on the improvement of their psychological recovery, focus on all of the mental skills, and it is also suggested to the mentors to help athletes in this field by using mental reproduction exercises that restore concentration and relaxation in order to improve the process of these two important skills in the fencing sport
